Men’s Chorus Sings At The Met

The Seattle Men’s Chorus returns to Spokane for a fifth-straight spring concert on Saturday at 8 p.m. at The Met.

The title of this year’s concert is “Hand in Hand: Songs from Our Lives.”

The Seattle Men’s Chorus, which will be accompanied by the barest of instrumental arrangements and a percussion ensemble called Ladies Don’t Drum, will perform several favorites such as “Behold the Hills of Tomorrow,” “There Comes a Time” and “Eulogy,” the first choral work written in memory of those who have succumbed to AIDS.

The highlight of the night is sure to be the world premiere of an updated version of “America the Beautiful” called “America More Beautiful.” A press release gives this description of the piece: “This modern version of the patriotic standard reflects the dream of an America where diversity is celebrated and justice is a reality for all.”

The Seattle Men’s Chorus is now in its 17th year and has over 180 members. Between 130 and 140 singers will make the trip from Seattle for Saturday’s performance.

If you’re enamored of choral music, the Seattle Men’s Chorus only travels east of the Cascades once a year, so don’t miss this show.

Tickets are $18 reserved and are available at all G&B Select-a-Seat outlets or by calling 325-SEAT.
