Joel Gorham hit two of North Idaho College’s five home runs Friday as the Cardinals beat Treasure Valley 12-6 in the first game of a Region 18 season-opening baseball doubleheader.

Jesse Brown (4-2) of the Chukars (16-16) struck out 12 in 7-1/3 innings for a 6-3 second-game win.

Jeremy Mort, Ryan Novak and Jason Bartell also homered for NIC (8-9) to back starter Marc Pizzoferrato and Ryon Packard (1-1), the winner in relief.
