Chenoweth Against Plans To Restrict Boats On Snake

Associated Press

Reps. Wes Cooley of Oregon and Helen Chenoweth of Idaho clashed with Clinton administration officials Tuesday over Forest Service plans to restrict use of jet boats on the Snake River in Hells Canyon.

The two Republicans said the law Congress passed establishing a national recreation area on the river set aside its designation as a wild and scenic river, preventing the federal government from restricting use of the river.

U.S. Forest Service Chief Jack Ward Thomas said he too thought the law was “remarkably clear.”
