Vandals Hurdler Gehrke Runs Season-Best In 400

University of Idaho senior Tara Gehrke won the women’s 400-meter hurdles in a season-best 1 minute, 1.85 seconds Saturday at the Nike Invitational track and field meet in Minneapolis.

Vandals junior Kerri Fife finished second in the 400 in 56.97. Freshman Katherine Hough, out of University High, was third in the 100 in 12.18.

Idaho’s Laurie Thompson placed second in the javelin at 132 feet, 10 inches. Jackie Blackett (14.87) of Idaho finished third in the 100 hurdles and the 1,600 relay team took second in 3:55.85.

Freshman Francesca Green and sophomore Nicky Booth were double winners for Washington State’s women at the Boise State Quadrangle .

Green won the 100 in 11.79 and the long jump at 19-11. Booth doubled up in the 100 (13.87) and 400 (1:00.85) hurdles, both personal bests.

Senior Kim Hulse of the Cougars won the women’s discus with a personal-best 159-2. Senior Jeanna Hall of Colbert uncorked a runner-up 154-8 in the hammer for a school record.

WSU’s men’s winners were: senior Eric Anderson, 800, 1:50.71; senior Dominique Arnold, 110 hurdles, 13.9; Hilary Mawindi, triple jump, 48-10; and sophomore Matt Stadelman, javelin, 202-5.

Jill Wymer, competing unattached, swept the women’s shot put, discus and javelin at the Bigfoot Invitational at SFCC.

Idaho’s winners were: freshman Tawanda Chiwira, men’s 400, 45.79; junior Frank Bruder, men’s 3,000 steeplechase, 9:07.80; junior Niels Kruller, men’s long jump, 24-9; and Alisa Perez, women’s 400 hurdles, 1:09.32.

Gonzaga’s winners were: John Neill, men’s 800; Dan Ourada, men’s 1,500; Mark Bloudek, men’s 10,000; and Cheska Fairbanks, women’s 3,000.

Eastern Washington showed strength in field events. Winners were: Jennifer Bauman, women’s triple jump; Seville Broussard, women’s high jump; Leslee Oliver, women’s hammer; and Jeremy Oliver, men’s shot put.

CCS’s Anthony Gardner won the men’s triple jump at 45-6.

Crew

The University of Washington men’s varsity crew registered a sixth consecutive Windermere Cup victory in a record time of 5:35.27.

Yale was second in 5:38.45 over the 2,000-meter course through the Montlake Cut in Seattle.
