Cart Named In Suit

Compiled From Wire Services

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway filed suit to prevent Championship Auto Racing Teams from using the trademark name IndyCar for its racing series.

It was the latest volley in the feud between CART and the new Indy Racing League. Last month, CART filed suit in Michigan, claiming a 1992 licensing agreement allows it to use the IndyCar name for marketing purposes.

In March, the Speedway sent a letter to CART demanding it stop using the name IndyCar within 30 days. But CART said it applied for trademark protection for the IndyCar name in 1991.
