Montana Teenager Shot In Attempted Break-In

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after being shot while breaking into a guest house, Ravalli County authorities said.

A 68-year-old Victor man and his wife spotted someone wearing a ski mask and gloves and wielding an ax breaking into their guest house Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

The man grabbed a 9 mm handgun and went out to investigate, said Detective Stering Maus.

The man told authorities he was attacked and shot the intruder once in the stomach, then called deputies.

Only after the struggle did the man find out the intruder was a girl.

She underwent surgery at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton and was in the intensive care unit.

Maus declined to release the names of those involved. No arrests have been made and the case is still under investigation, he said.
