United States Stays Perfect

The United States remained unbeaten after five games in a pre-Olympic women’s basketball tournament, defeating Cuba 108-79.

Lisa Leslie and Carla McGhee each had 16 points for the U.S. team, which is unbeaten in 44 games, 22 against international competition.

Cuba (1-4) trailed 68-64 with 11:43 to play when Dawn Staley keyed the United States’ closing run, scoring nine of her 14 points.

The United States has one preliminary game remaining - Ukraine (1-4) on Tuesday - then will meet Australia (3-2) Wednesday for the title in the four-team tournament.
