Compiled From Wire Services

Olivier Panis of France captured a wet and wild Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Monaco, after pole-sitter Michael Schumacher crashed on the first lap.

It was the first career victory for Panis and the first for Ligier-Mugen-Honda since 1981, when Jacques Laffite of France won the Canadian Grand Prix.

David Coulthard in a McLaren-Mercedes was second, 4.4 seconds behind Panis, and Johnny Herbert of Britain was third in a Sauber-Ford.

Only three of the 22 cars that started the race were running at the end.

Randy LaJoie held off polesitter David Green to win the CoreStates/Meridian Advantage 200 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series race at Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, Pa.

Chad Little of Spokane finished 11th, earning $6,825.

Joe Amato, John Force and Jim Yates won professional titles at the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.

Amato won in Top Fuel, Force in Funny Car and Yates in Pro Stock at the seventh event in the 1996 NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.
