Associated Press

A man was chased down a street by a woman with a large caliber handgun and shot to death in front of a group of bystanders, police said.

Rudolph Perry Jr., 40, who was shot several times, was pronounced dead at Madigan Army Medical Center shortly after Monday afternoon’s shooting.

The woman fled after the shooting and was still at large early Wednesday.

“He was trying to run and zigzag,” one witness said. “Then the person squared off and shot at him at least six times. He dropped and landed on the ground.”

“She came up behind us when all of a sudden he started to run. She fired about five times, and he finally fell,” said another witness.

“I thought it was a pop gun at first,” he said.

Another man, who also declined to be identified, said he was standing outside the Tacoma Rescue Mission when he witnessed the shooting and ran to Perry’s side.

“I felt his pulse,” the man said. “He had a pulse for a full minute … ” A motive for the shooting wasn’t known.
