Scouts Collect 140,000 Pounds Of Canned Food In Annual Drive

From Staff And Wire Reports

Boy Scouts throughout the Spokane area and North Idaho collected 140,000 pounds of canned food Saturday during their annual food drive.

Spokane County Scouts led the way, collecting 120,000 pounds of food that was donated to the Spokane Food Bank. The food will be distributed to various agencies that provide emergency food and holiday meals.

The food collected during Saturday’s drive will make nearly 100,000 meals, said Ann Price, the food bank’s development manager.

Local agencies serve about 13,000 meals a month, Price said.

About 12,000 Scouts and volunteers worked to collect the food.
