Turks Attack Kurd Hideout In Iraq

Compiled From Wire Services

Turkish troops stormed a Kurdish separatist hideout in northern Iraq on Friday, killing 35 rebels and narrowly missing their leader, the foreign minister said.

Tansu Ciller said 45 people were wounded in the raid on a cave on an undisclosed mountain in northern Iraq, where Turkish Kurdish rebels have bases for cross-border attacks.

Soldiers arrested a high-level rebel commander, Ali Goz, but rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan managed to escape, Ciller was quoted by the Anatolia news agency as saying.
