Wayne Hutchinson Spokane

Memorial service for Wayne J. Hutchinson, 73, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hutchinson, who died Saturday, was born in Montezuma, Iowa.

He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in the European Theater with the 34th Bombardment Squadron, 17th Bomb Group. He was the captain of a five-man B-26 Martin Marauder crew.

His plane was shot down in December 1944. He and his crew safely bailed out, and Mr. Hutchinson received the Distinguished Flying Cross and membership in the Caterpillar Club.

He also received two Air Medals and two Purple Hearts.

Following the war, he returned to Iowa and attended the University of Iowa and Grinnell College.

In 1953 he joined Butler Manufacturing Co. and was transferred to Spokane in 1957. In 1964 he started his own business, Associated System Builders.

In 1978 he began working in commercial real estate and worked for Properties One and Kiemle & Hagood. He later founded his own commercial real estate business, the Hutchinson Co.

Mr. Hutchinson was a member of the Central Lions Club, the Real Estate Traders Club, El Katif Shrine, the Washington Pilots Association and the Order of Quiet Birdmen.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; a son, Jay Hutchinson of Seattle; two stepsons, Steve Prugh of Spokane and Dick Prugh of Bozeman, Mont.; a brother, Maynard Hutchinson of Montezuma, Iowa; and five stepgrandchildren.

Cheryl Witt Odessa, Wash.

Service for Cheryl L. Witt, 47, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Odessa Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Witt died Friday.

She was born in Spokane and graduated from Quincy (Wash.) High School.

She attended Pacific Lutheran University and graduated from Wenatchee Valley College as a licensed practical nurse.

She married Ken Witt in 1969 in Odessa.

Mrs. Witt worked at Odessa Memorial Hospital and the Odessa Record. She also was a homemaker and volunteer and wrote two cookbooks.

She was a member of the Odessa Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Jason and Shannon Witt, both of Odessa; her mother and stepfather, Ilene and Roy Marriott of Davenport, Wash.; and a brother, Kenneth Manke of East Wenatchee.

Margaret Esslinger Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret D. Esslinger, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Esslinger, who was born in Rockland, Wash., died Friday.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and graduated from North Central High School.

She had worked at Eastern State Hospital.

Her husband, Dan Esslinger, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Esslinger is survived by a son, Bruce Pringle of Medical Lake; two brothers, Harry Altmeyer of Spokane and Roscoe Altmeyer of Post Falls; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.

Maria Mallars Colbert

Service for Maria Mallars, 95, will be at 10 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Private burial will be at Elmwood Park Cemetery in Rivergrove, Ill. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mallars died Sunday.

She was born in Greece and had lived in Colbert for the past 10 years.

Her husband, Samuel Mallars, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Campo of Colbert; a brother, Andrew Lambrakis of San Diego; three grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Alberta Knapp Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Alberta Knapp, 76, will be today from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section, in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Knapp, who was born in Edmonton, Alberta, died Saturday.

She moved to North Idaho in 1936 from Montana and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Mrs. Knapp was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Dick Knapp of Mount Vernon, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Watson of Nine Mile Falls; two sisters, Margerite Stanley of Montana and Callie Knapp of Coeur d’Alene; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth Deeble Spokane

Visitation for Ruth M. Deeble, 90, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Deeble, a 71-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Eau Claire, Wis., and attended the University of Wisconsin before moving to Spokane with her family.

She graduated from Northwestern Business School and worked at the Federal Land Bank in Spokane for three years.

In 1928 she married Edward Deeble Sr. He died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Edward Deeble Jr. of Spokane; two daughters, Betty June Corbin of Spokane and Diane Etten of Sunnyvale, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mayme Johnson Spokane

Visitation for Mayme Johnson, 95, will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Cataldo, Idaho, died Friday.

She lived and farmed in Cataldo before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1957. She moved to Spokane in 1980.

She was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Senior Center and the Grandmothers Club.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, in 1969.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Hamel of Coeur d’Alene and Mabel Meeks of Spokane; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Fred ‘Fritz’ Weisschadel Elk

Service for Fred P. “Fritz” Weisschadel, 80, will be at 1 p.m. today at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Elk Cemetery No. 1. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weisschadel, a longtime Elk resident, died Thursday.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y.

He worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead as a potman and retired in 1971.

He was a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 329.

His wife, Bessie Weisschadel, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his companion, Frances; a son, Pete Weisschadel; three daughters, Esther Jordan, Kay Ogolin and Ruth Seaton; five sisters, Katie, Margaret, Ruth, Irene and Anna; four brothers, Carl, Bobby, Ernie and Dave; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viola Wirth Spokane

Visitation for Viola M. Wirth, 76, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at the Pines Mausoleum.

Born and raised in Spokane, Mrs. Wirth died Thursday.

She operated a title courier service doing lost-title work for new- and usedcar dealerships in Spokane. She retired in 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Jack Riley and Dan Wirth, both of Spokane; a sister, Emilia Tveden of Spokane; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Sister Imelda Philipp, O.P. Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sister Imelda Philipp, 82, is set for 10 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Germany, Sister Philipp died Saturday.

She took her final vows with the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in Kettle Falls, Wash., in 1935.

Sister Philipp received a bachelor of education degree from Carroll College in Helena and was an elementary school teacher in Montana before moving to Spokane.

She taught at Assumption Catholic School in Spokane from 1962 to 1967 and again from 1969 to 1980. Since 1980 she had been pastoral minister for Assumption Catholic Parish and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

There are no surviving family members.

Kathryn Ebey Spokane

Memorial service for Kathryn H. Ebey, 75, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Ebey, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Charles Ebey, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Kemmer Ebey of Spokane; a daughter, Sharon Tackett of Elk; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

William Renner Spokane

No service will be held for William J. Renner, 77, at his request. Private inurnment at Riverside Memorial Park is planned. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Renner died Friday.

He was born in Glen Ullin, N.D, and had lived in Spokane for 60 years.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge 2 and Teamsters Union Local 334. Mr. Renner worked as a truck driver for a freight company.

His wife, Dorothy Renner, died in 1987. He is survived by two sisters, Eleanor Weeks of Palouse, Wash., and Ann Samblis of Spokane.

Elizabeth Larson Spokane

Visitation for Elizabeth “Betty” Larson, 94, is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Larson died Saturday.

She was born in Seattle. She had lived in Spokane for 60 years and worked as a waitress for the Desert Hotel and the Coeur d’Alene Hotel.

Mrs. Larson was a longtime volunteer at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital until it closed in 1993.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Her husband, Vern Larson, died in 1938.

Mrs. Larson is survived by two daughters, Donna Cozza of Spokane and Nancy Burns of Seattle; a sister, Mable Peterson of Puyallup, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Edmund Kaufman Spokane

Visitation for Edmund F. “Ed” Kaufman, 78, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Kaufman, a 55-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Uniontown, Wash.

He moved to Spokane in 1941 and served in the Army’s 2nd Armored Division during World War II.

Mr. Kaufman worked for Interstate Novelty as a coin-machine mechanic for 26 years and retired in 1973.

He married Helen Slater in 1973 in Spokane.

He is survived by his wife.

Ruth Buck Ukiah, Calif.

Private graveside service for Ruth Imogene Buck, 91, was held in Ukiah.

Mrs. Buck, a former Spokane resident, died Nov. 4.

She was born in Walla Walla and had lived in Spokane for 49 years.

She graduated from West Seattle High School and worked for Sears in Seattle in the catalog department.

In Spokane she was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church and the Valley Kiwanis Club.

She was an officer and part owner with her husband of Western Builders Co., a real estate development firm in Spokane.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vincent Buck; a daughter, Patricia Barnett of Ukiah; a son, Roger Buck of Columbia, Md.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ethelyn Lenderman Spokane

Memorial graveside service for Ethelyn B. Lenderman, 81, is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lenderman, a 29-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Garfield, Wash.

She was a homemaker and a past member of the Royal Neighbors and the Pend Oreille Garden Club.

Her husband, Henry Lenderman, died in 1967.

She is survived by three sons, Don Lenderman of Spokane, Ken Lenderman of Loon Lake, Wash., and Gerald Lenderman of Moxee City, Wash.; two daughters, Joanne Hare of Surf City, N.C., and Joy Harris of Spokane; two sisters, Barbara White of Sacramento, Calif., and Beverly Polley of Spokane; a brother, Lewis Ward of Colbert; 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Inga Moe Colbert

Service for Inga O. Moe, 84, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Moe died Thursday.

She was born in Berthold, N.D.

She was a 55-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Moe was a member of First Church of the Open Bible and a former member of Christian Faith Fellowship, where she had served as secretarytreasurer for 16 years.

She is survived by her husband, George Moe; two daughters, Marilyn Deneke of Colbert and Carol Maurer of Great Falls, Mont.; two sons, George Moe of Columbia, Md., and David Moe of Maple Valley, Wash.; two sisters, Alice Udd of Seattle and Louise Nichols of Spokane; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Craig Spokane

Memorial service for Kenneth C. Craig, 67, is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Craig, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated from West Valley High School and retired from Genuine Parts Corp. in 1993 after 31 years.

He served in the Marine Corps.

Mr. Craig is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lucille; two sons, Kenneth Craig Jr. of Warner Robins, Ga., and Lloyd Craig of Spokane; three daughters, Valerie McCollum, Pamela Craig and Colleen McCalip, all of Spokane; two brothers, George and Everett Craig, both of Spokane; two sisters, Beulah Munday of Ocean Shores, Wash., and Bertha Tibbots of Olympia; and 13 grandchildren.
