Batt Expresses Confidence In Judge
Gov. Phil Batt calls his latest appointment to the Idaho judiciary a “fair-minded, thoughtful and even-tempered person” who should do a good job.
The governor announced Tuesday he has selected John Robert Stegner of Lewiston as 2nd District judge, succeeding John Bengston of Moscow, who retired.
Stegner is with the firm of Clements, Brown and McNichols and has been counsel to the University of Idaho since 1989.
“I have every confidence that he will be a good addition to Idaho’s judiciary,” the governor said in a prepared statement.
Stegner, 43, attended Whitman College in Walla Walla from 1973-77. He graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1982 and for the next two years was clerk for the late Harold Ryan, federal district judge for Idaho.
Stegner and his wife, Laurie, have three children, Sara, 10; Elizabeth, 6 and Katherine, 5.
