Man Charged With Raping 14-Year-Old
A Spokane man suspected of raping a 14-year-old girl and terrorizing her two friends was charged with four felonies Tuesday.
Mombasa Douglas, 20, is accused of first-degree rape and three counts of unlawful imprisonment.
The charges stem from an incident that took place late Sunday and early Monday at a house in the 12000 block of East Mansfield, deputies said.
The rape victim, another 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman hitched a ride to the house from north Spokane sometime before midnight Sunday, deputies said.
It’s not clear why they went to the house, sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick said.
When they arrived, Douglas was inside. He pulled out some knives and began intimidating the trio, deputies said.
He held the knives to their throats and threatened to kill them if they moved, Wiyrick said. Douglas also forced them to hold knives to his throat.
He then raped one of the girls, deputies said. The trio escaped the house after the rape and called deputies.
Douglas later was arrested at the 7-Eleven store on North Pines Road after the car he was riding in was pulled over by deputies who were searching for him.
On Tuesday, District Court Commissioner Virginia Rockwood called Douglas a danger to the community and a risk to flee the area if he was freed from jail.
Department of Corrections officials said Douglas, who has no felony record in Spokane County, has failed to appear in court on other matters at least a dozen times.
Rockwood set bail at $50,000.
