New Lipton Blend Not Their Cup Of Tea

Rick Bonino Food Editor

With all the talk these days about the health benefits of green tea, when we saw that Lipton had come out with one, we thoughtfully decided to share it with The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly their cup of you-know-what. Instead of finding it “delicately flavored with orange, passion fruit and jasmine,” as the package promised, panel member Meagan Coffey compared it to “licking old gum wrappers and coating my tongue with powdered aspirin.” Which would probably keep the doctor away, too.

Lipton Green Tea Blends Price: $1.60 for 24 tea bags.

Nutrition: No calories, fat or sodium.

Comments: “Has a slight citrus aroma, but definitely no citrus taste. Smells better than it tastes. Ick!” - Sandi Kessler

“Doesn’t smell good, doesn’t taste good … ummm … appearance not wholly unappealing.” - Helen Span
