Father/Son Team Conducts Symphony For Pullman Concert

Brazilian conductor Marcello Mechetti will share the Spokane Symphony podium with his son, Fabio, on Wednesday when the orchestra performs at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman.

The Mechettis will lead the orchestra and the Spokane Symphony Chorale in a program of operatic overtures, dances and choruses by Verdi, Borodin, Wagner and Mascagni.

Fabio Mechetti is currently in his fourth season as music director of the Spokane Symphony; he’s also music director of the Syracuse (N.Y.) Symphony.

Marcello has served as a member of the conducting staff of the Sao Paulo Opera Theater in Brazil for more than 40 years. The senior Mechetti also has been associate conductor of the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra and is considered one of South America’s most authoritative vocal teachers.

This concert will be repeated as a part of the symphony’s regular season in Spokane at the Opera House on Nov. 22.
