Incumbents Hold Onto Slim Victories

Pend Oreille County incumbents held onto slender election victories when absentee ballots were counted Wednesday.

Republican County Commissioner Mike Hanson defeated Democratic challenger Sandi Lewis by 84 votes, 2,398 to 2,314.

Pend Oreille County Public Utility District Commissioner Robert Johnson managed only a 44-vote victory over challenger Helen Keane, 2,126 to 2,082.

As expected, Republican challenger Wanda Stenzel was unable to reverse incumbent Democratic County Commissioner Karl McKenzie’s election-night lead. With absentees, the count was 2,514 to 2,124.
