WSU Signs Two Basketball Recruits Wing, Center To Join Cougars; Twin Stars Choose Stanford

From Staff And Wire Reports

Ron Selleaze, a 6-foot-6 wing from Fresno (Calif.) City College, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Washington State, his coach confirmed Thursday.

WSU is expected to announce the signing of Selleaze and Brian Stewart, a 6-10 center at Salpointe High School in Tucson, Ariz., as early as today.

Under NCAA rules, WSU coach Kevin Eastman cannot comment on either recruit until the signings become official.

WSU will be Selleaze’s fourth college since his 1994 graduation from San Lorenzo High in Oakland, Calif.

Selleaze spent the 1994-95 season at Merritt Community College in Oakland, then transferred to Texas-El Paso. He did not play at UTEP, leaving for Fresno after just one semester.

The Cougars play an exhibition game Saturday against Brewster Packing at Friel Court at 1 p.m.

Stanford lands three stars

Jason and Jarron Collins, highly recruited twins from Harvard Wesley High in California’s San Fernando Valley, are headed to Stanford.

Jason, who stands 6-11, and his 6-10 brother settled on Stanford over UCLA and Arizona. The Bruins were considered front-runners until last week’s abrupt firing of coach Jim Harrick.

Mike McDonald, a highly rated guard out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High School, also signed with the Cardinal. His father, Glenn McDonald, was a reserve with the Boston Celtics.

Huskies land in-state players

Two of the state’s top prep guards have signed national letters-of-intent to enroll at the University of Washington.

Michael Johnson, a 6-foot-5 swingman out of Seattle’s Ballard High, and 6-foot point guard Dan Dickau of Prairie High in Vancouver, have signed.

OSU signs Issaquah’s Heide

Jason Heide, a 6-foot-10, 260-pound senior from Issaquah, Wash., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Oregon State, the school announced Thursday.
