Paula Larson Named Student Of The Month

Paula Larson, a Boise State University student from Hayden Lake majoring in management/ human resources, has received a Student of the Month Award for October from BSU’s College of Business and Economics.

Larson, a 1988 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High school and the daughter of Bob and Betty Hart of Hayden Lake, was nominated by faculty members and selected by a nine-member committee based on academic achievement, service and classroom participation. She will receive a lapel pin.

Laura Vincent, a Lake City High School economics teacher, recently received the Eaton Award for distinguished work in furthering economics education in Idaho from the Economics America/Idaho, also known as the Idaho Council on Economic Education operated at Boise State University’s College of Business and Economics.

Vincent, a graduate of the University of Idaho, teaches three to five economics classes per semester and has served as the local coordinator for Economics America/Idaho in North Idaho schools. She has also worked closely with the Associate Center for Economic Education at North Idaho College.

Post Falls Ambulance recently honored several volunteer members at an awards banquet held earlier this month.

Tom Sharp, Post Falls, received the Five Year Continuous Service Award for his dedicated service with Rescue 2.

Sharp, a certified Idaho State Emergency Medical Technician and past recipient of the Harry Button Award, has responded to 416 calls and accumulated over 4,000 hours of on-call time.

Sharp, who volunteers with his wife, Jackie, is the manager of Les Schwab Tire in Post Falls and has served three of his five years of service as President of the Board of Directors.

Sue Hopkins, Rathdrum, received the Rookie of the Year Award for her service with Rescue 3.

Hopkins, a certified Emergency Medical Technician, has responded to 41 calls and has accumulated over 200 hours of on-call time since completing the emergency medical technician course last spring. She volunteers with her husband, Dale.

Pat Shuey, received the prestigious Harry Button Award for her outstanding service and dedication to the ambulance service.

Shuey, past American Legion EMT of the Year by Post No. 51 in 1996, has been a volunteer since 1993 and is currently part of the administrative support staff and responds on the ambulance as an Idaho State Emergency Medical Technician. Shuey, who volunteers with her husband, John, has responded to 153 calls since January 1, 1996. The award is named after Harry O. Button, the founder of Post Falls Ambulance.
