Shooting By Boise Cop Investigated Fourth Killing In 10 Months
For the fourth time in 10 months, the Boise Police Department is investigating a shooting by its officers. Three of those shootings have been deadly.
Scott James Moody, 28, died Friday morning after he was shot by a uniformed officer.
An autopsy performed Saturday showed that Moody died of a single gunshot wound to the head, Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg said.
Moody also had scrapes and bruises, Sonnenberg said.
“There were signs of a pretty good struggle.”
Police officials say Moody and 18-year-old Loyd E. Robeson were stopped in West Boise about 4:30 a.m. because they were acting suspiciously. When an officer tried to search him, Moody pulled a gun and shot the officer in the hip.
The officer grabbed Moody, they struggled, and Moody was shot once in the head. He died at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
A drug test showed that Moody had marijuana and amphetamines in his system, Sonnenberg said.
Officials have not released the name of the officer who fired the fatal shot. But the officer has been placed on a standard three-day leave, and the incident is being investigated.
