The Slice Let The Slice Bear The Brunt Of Mistargeted Frustrations

Troubled individuals have sent snippy unsigned notes to a couple of readers whose names appeared in The Slice in recent weeks.

That’s a definite no-no.

Please send all hate mail directly to Slice Headquarters. Thank you.

Many happy returns: Today is longtime University High School librarian Shirley Bonuccelli’s 50th birthday. She looks like she’s 29. Fax her your best wishes at 921-6266.

Maybe it’s a mark of our own immaturity: But whenever we read about some skinny guy with green hair described as “fashion’s bad boy” or the “bad boy of the art world,” we can’t help but guess that most Spokane sixth-graders could take him out with one uppercut.

Even more are hooked on dumb magazines: “An estimated 2 million women are addicted to sex.” - from the December issue of Marie Claire Pet

Names Department: The school dog at St. Aloysius School is a black lab called Amazing Gracey.

Then again: A reader who wants to remain anonymous expressed support for keeping Mount Rainier on Washington’s license plates. “I am proud of this majestic feature of our state…It is my opinion that people who wish to change the symbol on our license plates are just jealous of the West, and should stand back and admire our state as a whole.”

You mean, the way the state Legislature does when it sticks it to Eastern Washington?

Final chapter: Laurie Newell wrote to say that not all black and white cats are full of themselves. “We have a black-and-white cat who is quite friendly but not pushy,” she said.

And she told about a recent encounter with a big gray cat whose confidence demonstrated that black-and-white felines have no monopoly on furry self-esteem. “After three or four introductory strokes, he launched himself into the air and landed with his front paws around my neck in a kitty hug,” she wrote. “He must have been thoroughly convinced that he was irresistible.”

Five percent give out turkeys: According to the Bureau of National Affairs, 69 percent of employers give workers two days off for Thanksgiving. - from The Wall Street Journal

Today’s Slice question: Are there any rural roadside cafes around here with good food and breathable air?
