Lake City’s Excellent Service Overwhelming To Lewiston

Brianne Taylor served the first eight points of the opener and the first seven of the second game Thursday as Lake City (6-5, 2-2) beat visiting Lewiston 15-8, 15-7 in an Inland Empire League match at Coeur d’Alene.

Lindsay Herbert added five kills and four blocks, Melanie Adams eight digs and Sarah Perry 21 assists for the Timberwolves, who passed the Bengals (6-3, 2-3) and moves into third place.

Andrea Thomas had 12 assists and four digs to lead Moscow (4-7, 3-4) past visiting Lakeland 15-6, 15-7 and into third place in the Intermountain League.

Dana Wilder added seven kills and three digs, and Erin Makus five blocks and two digs for the Bears. Amber Jamison had six kills, Cassie Beyer 10 assists and Jamie Harwood three blocks for the Hawks (6-7, 2-3).

Second-place Kellogg (10-3, 4-2) beat host Bonners Ferry 15-8, 13-15, 15-0. Rachel Downing had 12 kills, four digs and two aces, Amber Paulson seven kills and Tammy Blanford seven digs for Bonners Ferry (2-10, 2-5).

Angela Flint’s 23 assists and four kills guided visiting Lakeside (4-9, 2-3) past Falls Christian 11-15, 15-7, 15-5 in a North Star League match at Post Falls.

Harmony Hammonds added five kills and four blocks for the Knights, who passed FC into third place. Kim Williams had six kills and Melanie Johnson 10 assists for the Eagles.

Brooke Simpkin had four of North Idaho Christian’s 10 aces during a 15-13, 15-13 non-league win over the visiting Lake City junior varsity at Hayden Lake.

Sarah Kozlowski added three kills for NIC, which served 84 percent.

Twelve area teams will gather at Lake City and CdA Saturday for the third annual Spike & Dig Tournament.

The field has been divided into three pools. East Valley, Moscow, Kellogg and LC make up Pool 1; Post Falls, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry and Colville will play in Pool 2; and Lakeland, Lewiston, Priest River and CdA are aligned in Pool 3.

Pools 1 and 2 will play at LC, Pool 3 at CdA. Pool play begins at 9 a.m. Matches will be best-of-three games to 15 points with a 17-point cap. All matches needing a third game will use modified rally scoring until one team reaches 10 points. Sandpoint is the defending champion.

Girls soccer

Sophomore Catrina Corbeill’s goal with 5 minutes left lifted CdA (8-1-1) to a 3-2 win over visiting Moscow (5-3-2) in the North Idaho League.

Teah Beckman’s goal from 25 yards out gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead at 53 minutes. Moscow rebounded with two Sarah Meyer goals, the second off a penalty kick.

Football

Visiting Mullan (4-1, 4-1) beat Falls Christian 50-0 at Post Falls to move slightly ahead of Lakeside (4-1, 3-1) for first place in the NSL. No details were reported.
