Spokane Police Investigate String Of Violent Robberies

Spokane detectives are investigating a spate of violent robberies that occurred throughout the city Thursday and Friday.

Four people from different areas of the city reported being robbed and assaulted between dawn Thursday and about 1 a.m. Friday, police said.

No one has been arrested in the apparently unrelated crimes.

The violence started Thursday about 2:30 a.m. when a man riding his bicycle through Riverfront Park was attacked and robbed by four white males.

The man told detectives he was kicked and beaten before the attackers stole his money, backpack and red mountain bike.

Thursday evening, a woman was tackled and beaten in Manito Park on the South Hill.

Police said the 30-year-old victim was walking near Duncan Gardens about 5:30 p.m. when a man knocked her down and tried to steal her purse.

When the woman held onto the bag, the man hit her in the face and kicked her until she let go. He ran away and hasn’t been caught.

Later that night, a 76-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Bernard.

The victim told detectives he got off a bus about 9:15 p.m. and was walking down an alley when two Hispanic or Native American men came up behind him.

One of the assailants held a handgun to the man’s head while the other rifled through his pockets, stealing cash and keys. The victim wasn’t hurt, and the men got away.

The final incident occurred about 1 a.m. Friday in the 1000 block of North Freya.

A 25-year-old man was walking through a parking lot when two white males in a Honda Prelude pulled up and asked whether he wanted a ride, police said.

When he got into the car, one of the men starting punching him in the face and demanding money.

The pair grabbed some cash out of the victim’s pocket before he could get out of the car and run for help, detectives said.
