Building Almost Ready To House New Tenants

Kathy Mulady Staff Writer

The last remnant of the old Indian Trail Center will be torn down next week to reveal a new, nearly finished strip of stores standing behind it.

Four businesses are preparing to move into the new strip. Two are long-time tenants: Richard’s Fine Cleaning and Little Caesars Pizza. Two are new: Supercuts hair salon and PostNet, a packaging and mailing service.

Richard Kerber, who owns the dry cleaning business, said he plans to move this weekend

“We are very excited about getting this whole center done and having the new businesses here,” Kerber said.

The final phase of the $4 million project is the culmination of six years of work, including a legal battle with neighbors over the super-sized Safeway once proposed for the site.

Residents lost the battle, but in the meantime Safeway lost interest in the location. Yoke’s Pac ‘N Save Foods decided to stay, opening a 44,000-square-foot superstore there last spring.

The shopping center’s gas station was also torn down as part of the project. It reopened in late September as a Texaco station and mini-market.

The center was built in 1965 and is owned by the Indian Trail Syndicate, an investment group. Dave Black, chief executive officer of Tomlinson Black, is a member of the group.

John Obde’s dental office is the only part of the original center that remains unchanged, said Black.
