Businesses Warned To Watch For Fake Bills
The Secret Service and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department are warning businesses to be wary of counterfeit $20 bills cropping up in Coeur d’Alene and Eastern Washington.
Kootenai County Sheriff Pierce Clegg said the bills are the most convincing counterfeit money he’s seen.
The bills do not have a security thread on the left side and do not have red/blue security fibers throughout the bill.
Among other signs to look for:
The letter ‘L’ in the seal.
A ‘C3’ in the upper left corner of the face plate.
An ‘fwC47’ in the lower right corner of the face plate.
A small number 5 in the back plate.
Series year: 1993
A serial number of L61308933D - although other serial numbers are possible.
The bills appear to have been made with a ink-jet copy machine and therefore have the characteristic microscopic ink dots in unprinted areas.
Authorities ask anyone who receives a counterfeit bill to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency. They also suggest getting an identification card or the vehicle license plate number. , DataTimes
