Olympic Loss Denied

U.S. and international Olympic officials expect the Atlanta Summer Games to break even or make a small profit, denying reports of a multimillion-dollar deficit.

The Olympics’ top marketing official, Michael Payne, meanwhile, said the IOC would tighten its rules to prevent the commercial excesses and “junk merchandising” of Atlanta. He also scolded Salt Lake City organizers for taking so long to complete a marketing deal for the 2002 Winter Games.
