Wwp Hires Bpa Official For Key Post

Washington Water Power Co. has hired a Bonneville Power Administration vice president as western regional manager.

Judi Johansen will assume her new duties Nov. 1, said WWP Vice President Gary Ely.

“Judi will be responsible for marketing and business development in Washington and Oregon, including the creation and implementation of a wholesale marketing strategy focusing on opportunities along the Interstate 5 corridor,” he said.

“She knows the Northwest very well. She knows those customers very well.”

Johansen will remain in Portland, an increasingly important center for electricity marketing. Besides Bonneville, aggressive PacifiCorp is headquartered there, as is Portland General Electric, which has agreed to a merger with Enron Corp.

Enron has moved rapidly to become the leader in wholesale power marketing nationwide.

Ely said WWP, itself ranked No. 5 in terms of megawatts sold at wholesale during the first six months of 1996, is not overawed by the competition on the West Side.

“We think we’ll do very well there,” he said.

Johansen has worked at Bonneville since 1992. The Colorado native’s involvement in Northwest energy affairs began in 1983, when she became a staff attorney for the Public Power Council.
