Miller’s 3 Ruins Schrempf’s Homecoming

Associated Press

Reggie Miller spoiled Detlef Schrempf’s return to his native country by hitting a 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left Friday night to lift the Indiana Pacers to a 98-95 NBA exhibition victory over the Seattle Sonics.

Miller scored 37 points, including the Pacers’ last 13, in the first of the teams’ two meetings on the Euro ‘96 tour. They also meet Sunday in Seville, Spain.

Indiana took a 71-53 lead with 4:27 left in the third quarter before Seattle began chipping away behind Gary Payton, whose 24 points led Seattle.

Seattle took its first lead of the game at 93-91 with 1:47 to play on a 3-pointer by Hersey Hawkins. That shot drew a thunderous roar from a crowd of 10,500 Germans, who cheered throughout for the Sonics because of Schrempf.

Schrempf finished with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists, but was just 2 of 9 from the field.

Kemp being sued

A Phoenix filmmaker is crying foul over Shawn Kemp’s refusal to film scenes for a movie and has filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against the Sonics forward.

Angel “Tito” Salgado accused Kemp of breach of contract for failing to complete two shoots in the basketball-oriented film “3 on 3.”

Kemp has offered to reshoot his scenes if he’s satisfied the movie is a first-rate production, his lawyer, James Bryant, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Kemp and his representatives were not convinced by what they saw on a Phoenix-area movie set in August, Bryant said.

Salgado said an investor withdrew a $1.5 million pledge for the film’s completion after Kemp refused to film his scenes.
