Redeemer Lutheran Church Launches Classroom Project
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer Road, has recently begun a classroom building project expected to cost nearly $1 million.
The 8,000-square-foot building, which will house Sunday school and adult education classes, is scheduled to be completed in January, said Sandy Anderson, minister of discipleship for the church. The church also hopes to begin construction soon on three soccer fields. When complete, the fields would be available for the public to use, says Anderson.
“We thought it would be a good way to serve the community,” Anderson said.
More than $800,000 has been donated or pledged by church members to pay for the project, and the effort to collect money is ongoing.
The church would like to form a partnership with a sports association to help develop the soccer fields, Anderson said.
Such a partnership would allow the leagues to use the fields in exchange for paying for seeding the grass fields and installing a sprinkler system.
If no extra monetary help is received, said Jim Lindblad, co-chairman of the church building committee, it will take up to to years to complete the soccer fields.
