On hold: Peyton Manning, QB, Tennessee, did not play. Must have a good game against Alabama to atone for Florida disaster.

Too good to ignore: Jake Plummer, QB, Arizona State, completed 26 of 44 passes - both career bests - for 277 yards vs. Southern Cal. … Tiki Barber, RB, Virginia, had 132 yards rushing and 213 all-purpose yards, including touchdowns on a 74-yard punt return and a 52-yard run, in 62-14 victory over North Carolina State.

NOTABLE

Jason Martin, Louisiana Tech, threw for 542 yards and eight touchdowns, both school records, and Chad Mackey had 310 yards receiving and five TDs, as the Bulldogs blasted Toledo 61-20.

Moses Moreno, Colorado State, passed for a career-high 359 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score, leading the Rams to a 36-13 victory over San Jose State.

Anthony Poindexter, Virginia, intercepted three passes and blocked a punt in the Cavaliers’ 62-14 victory over North Carolina State. The Cavaliers had four interceptions and two blocked punts in the first half.

Dartmouth beat Yale 40-6 for its 12th consecutive win and the largest margin of victory over the Elis in a series that dates to 1884.

Northwestern extended its Big Ten winning streak to 12 games. However, Darnell Autry’s streak of 100-yard rushing games ended at 19 when he separated his shoulder in the first half. Autry finished with 58 yards on 10 carries.

Ohio State quarterback Stanley Jackson was ejected for kicking a Purdue player in the third quarter of the Buckeyes’ 42-14 victory.

Kevin Faulk, LSU, gained 265 all-purpose yards in a 41-14 victory over Kentucky.

George Jones, San Diego State, and Corey Dillon, Washington, both scored five touchdowns.
