Iraq Says Kuwait Attacked Science Ship

Iraq claimed Saturday that Kuwaiti boats attacked an Iraqi scientific research ship within Iraqi territorial waters.

The Baghdad government sent a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali complaining that two unidentified Kuwaiti vessels “intercepted and opened fire” at the Iraqi ship, the state-run Iraqi News Agency said.

There was no immediate reaction from Kuwaiti authorities.

The agency did not name the ship, say when it was attacked or whether it was damaged.
