Speak Softly And Choose Your Words Carefully

Thank you to the brave man who confronted the teen boy who was acting out at the Medical Lake football game a week ago. It was one of those awkward moments where you know someone should do something, but you feel paralyzed. Here’s what happened:

The cheerleaders were throwing miniature footballs into the crowd. The teen in question caught two of them, then placed them under his jacket in the position where breasts would be if he were a woman. Then, he turned around to the crowd and played with those football breasts in a suggestive way. Some of the students laughed. But the adults, especially the women, seemed mortified.

Enter the hero. He walked down from the bleachers and whispered something to the young man, who promptly sat down.

Several women in the bleachers then clapped. The man later told us: “I told him you can either quit this now or I’ll just call the police over.”

Soul soup: Someone popped a copy of “Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul” in our mailbox the other day. These chicken soup books are filled with feel-good stories. Some are good, others corny. We found this gem titled “Marriage Advice from 1886.” It reads:

“Let your love be stronger than your hate or anger. Learn the wisdom of compromise, for it is better to bend a little than to break. Believe the best rather than the worst.

“People have a way of living up or down to your opinion of them. Remember that true friendship is the basis for any lasting relationship. The person you choose to marry is deserving of the courtesies and kindnesses you bestow on your friends.”

She said: “Be a queen. Dare to be different. Be a pioneer. Be a leader. Be the kind of woman who in the face of adversity will continue to embrace life and walk fearlessly through challenge. Take it on! Be a truth seeker and rule your domain, whatever it is - your home, your office, your family - with a loving heart.” - Oprah Winfrey
