Sunset Hill Apartments On City Agenda

A developer’s plans to build an apartment complex on Sunset Hill infuriates neighbors, who want the Spokane City Council to intervene.

Council members will hold a hearing tonight on Ron McCloskey’s proposal to build 48 apartments along Westcliff Drive, north and east of the Indian Canyon Golf Course.

The Carousel Lane Neighborhood Association wants the council to overturn a hearing examiner’s approval of McCloskey’s development.

The association hired land-use attorney Steve Eugster to argue its case that roads and other services in the area can’t handle more development.

Also tonight, the council will consider:

Putting the Pietsch House at 1647 W. Main in Peaceful Valley on the Spokane Register of Historic Places.

The home, which was built in 1892, has a stone foundation, brick walls, and vertical windows with arches.

Accepting $840,000 in state money to design a new stretch of South River Drive from Division to Hamilton streets.
