Seahawks, Chiefs Pay Price For Fights

From Wire Reports

Ten Seattle Seahawks and seven Kansas City Chiefs were fined a total of $73,000 by the NFL on Wednesday for a series of skirmishes during Kansas City’s 36-14 victory last Thursday night.

Kansas City’s Marcus Allen and Seattle’s Winston Moss were each fined $5,000, while Chris Penn of the Chiefs and Corey Harris and Dean Wells of the Seahawks were fined $5,000 each for unnecessary roughness.

Moss and Wells, both linebackers, were ejected from the game.

Moss, 30, took his second fine of the season by the league with a smile. He also was fined $7,500 for a helmet hit against Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre this season.

“My son and my daughter won’t get BWMs when they go away to school now,” Moss said.

Twelve players were fined $4,000 each for entering the area of a fight - Seattle’s Mike Barber, Carlton Gray, Selwyn Jones, Cortez Kennedy, Darryl Williams, Ronnie Williams and Terry Wooden, and Kansas City’s Kimble Anders, Danan Hughes, Dave Szott, Tim Grunhard and Keith Cash.

Kennedy, a five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, was fined for the first time in his NFL career.

San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau will likely miss Sunday’s game against Seattle because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

Niners sign Torretta

Steve Young will start Sunday despite continuing problems with a groin strain, and the San Francisco 49ers signed Gino Torretta to bolster their injury-shaken quarterback corps.
