Simpson Counsel Attacks Credibility Of Fuhrman’s Boss

New York Daily News

An attorney for O.J. Simpson on Tuesday attacked the credibility of ex-detective Mark Fuhrman’s supervisor, suggesting he shaded his testimony to cover for Fuhrman and hurt the former football great.

Simpson attorney Daniel Leonard almost shouted as he grilled detective Ron Phillips, who had testified earlier that Fuhrman was never alone near key crime scene evidence - including the infamous bloody glove.

“And you never saw Mark Fuhrman touch the glove?” Leonard bellowed.

“I never saw Mark Fuhrman touch the glove,” Phillips shot back.

The defense contends Fuhrman snatched one bloody glove from the crime scene and later planted it at Simpson’s home to frame him in the June 12, 1994, slayings of his ex-wife and her friend. Phillips swore he saw a lone bloody glove near the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Several other cops who arrived at the scene before Fuhrman did testified Monday that they also just saw one glove - disputing defense assertions that Fuhrman had the opportunity to grab the second glove.

But Leonard kept up his attack, telling Phillips: “Isn’t it true, that when you told this jury there was only one glove, that was based on absolutely nothing other than a cursory walk through?”

Phillips slowly retorted: “There was only one glove at the crime scene that I saw.”
