China Plans Tallest Building, Then Taller One
The race is still on for the world’s tallest building.
China’s official Xinhua news agency said Tuesday that China is planning a new 1,499-foot, 100-story building in the southwestern city of Chongqing that will claim the record in 1998.
The record is currently held by the 1,483-foot Petronas Towers office complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which will be completed this year.
The Chongqing complex would have a short turn holding the world record. Work is to start soon on what is planned to be an even taller building - 140 stories - in the southern city of Guangzhou, Xinhua said. It did not give the exact height.
The New York Post reported last month that developer Donald Trump is trying to trump them all, proposing a 1,792-foot office tower in lower Manhattan to help house the New York Stock Exchange.
