Dodgers’ Butler Fractures Hand

Brett Butler, who returned to the Los Angeles lineup last week after missing more than four months following cancer surgery, broke his left hand Tuesday night while bunting in a 5-4 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Reds.

There was no immediate word on whether Butler will miss the rest of the season.

Butler injured the hand while trying to bunt in the fourth inning. He squared around and Giovanni Carrara’s inside pitch hit him on the hand.

Raul Mondesi had four hits, giving him seven in a row in the last two days, as the Dodgers won for the 14th time in 18 games.

Craig Biggio’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly completed a three-run rally that gave Houston the win over Philadelphia.

Ozzie Timmons hit a two-run homer and Luis Gonzalez singled in two runs in Chicago’s win.

Montreal set an N.L. record and matched the major league mark by using nine pitchers.

Andres Galarraga hit his league-leading 42nd home run and Colorado broke its own major league record for most home-field homers (135) in a win over Atlanta.
