Carpenter Kicks Bears Past Saxons In Ot

Katie Carpenter scored a pair of second-half goals and added the winning score on an overtime corner kick Wednesday as Central Valley edged visiting Ferris 3-2 in a non-leaguer between Greater Spokane League girls soccer teams.

Christine Rehwald and Mariah McConnaughey scored to give the Saxons (4-2-0) a 2-0 lead until the 55-minute mark. The Bears are 3-2-1.

In other non-leaguers, Alli Powers’ goal at 79:30 allowed visiting Gonzaga Prep (3-3-0) to edge Rogers 2-1.

Rogers (2-5-0) led until the 70-minute mark, when Dani Thorn dribbled past the defense and beat Angie Vulcano, who had 15 saves. Kara Hines scored for the Pirates at 25 minutes when she recovered a ball 40 yards out and stuffed it right underneath the crossbar.

At U-Hi, Sara Streufert scored twice to lead the Titans (3-1-0) to a 4-1 win over visiting Shadle Park (2-3-0). Megan Black and Holly Hyatt added one goal and one assist apiece for U-Hi.

At Mead Junior High, Jenny Frazier scored twice late in the first half and Mead (5-0-0) beat visiting North Central 5-0. Katrina Morton added one goal and one assist for the Panthers, who held the Indians (0-5-0) without a shot on goal.

High school volleyball

Leah Wilde’s 16 kills and four blocks guided third-place Pullman (2-1) to a 15-8, 11-15, 15-11, 15-12 Frontier League win at Cheney.

Jessica Clark added 10 digs and three aces for the Greyhounds. Anna Getz led the Blackhawks (0-3) with 14 kills and five digs.

College soccer

Community Colleges of Spokane women’s soccer team handed Skagit Valley its first conference loss with a 4-1 win and moved into first place in the NWAACC.

The men took care of Skagit Valley 3-2 and improved to 6-0.

The Cardinals opened the women’s game with an Aimee Montel score in the first minute, but CCS dominated the rest of the way. Katie Snow scored first at the 14-minute mark and again early in the second half.

The Sasquatch lead the NWAACC with a 4-0-1 record and improved to 6-1-2 overall. The Cardinals fell to 4-1-0 in conference play.

Skagit opened the scoring in the men’s game also, but CCS finally answered with three straight goals in the second half to take the win.

Jeremy Stuart’s assist to Kevin Moser tied the score at 1-1 in the second half and ignited the Sasquatch. Brett Fink followed 19 minutes later with an unassisted goal and Chad Brown wrapped up the game with a penalty kick.

CCS is in first place in the Northern Division of NWAACC with a 6-0 record 6-0. Skagit fell to 3-2-1.

College volleyball

Community Colleges of Spokane needed five matches to down Yakima Valley, 15-12, 15-7, 13-15, 12-15, 15-11.

Whitworth kept things interesting by winning the third game, but lost to Whitman 15-12, 15-8, 12-15, 15-9.
