Davis Has New Offer From Lsu Idaho Coach Won’t Say If He’s Going Or Staying
If Idaho men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis is staying, he isn’t saying. If Davis is leaving, he isn’t saying.
New Louisiana State coach John Brady, who is hoping Davis joins his staff as an associate head coach, says he doesn’t know Davis’ plans.
Davis, who has been at Idaho one year in his second stint as head coach, returned to Moscow on Monday amid widespread speculation he is on the verge of leaving for LSU.
“I cannot comment on anything right now,” Davis said Monday afternoon in a telephone interview. “I just can’t.”
A week ago, Davis declined Brady’s offer, saying “unequivocally” he wasn’t going to LSU. But Brady renewed negotiations with Davis at the Final Four in Indianapolis and sweetened LSU’s offer, sources indicated.
“I would love to hire Kermit at LSU,” Brady said from his office in Baton Rouge, La., Monday night. “What he needs to do is up to him.”
Added Brady: “Kermit is absolutely the first guy I’d want to hire. Whether he comes or not is up to him. … If he was to choose to come help me at LSU it would be a plus, but he’s gotta do what’s best for him.”
UI president Bob Hoover said, “I certainly like Kermit and would like to see him stay and we’ll support him. Oval (Jaynes, the UI athletic director) feels the same way.”
Asked if believed Davis would remain, Hoover said, “Those kinds of things are decisions he ultimately has to make.”
