Protester Sentenced For Insulting Suharto
A protester who unfurled a banner depicting President Suharto with human bones in his mouth was sentenced Monday to a year in jail.
Joao Do Rosario Pires Al Joao, 24, was convicted of insulting the president and sentenced by a district court in Dili, capital of East Timor, according to the news agency Antara.
The East Timorese man was arrested at a November demonstration in Dili at which about 500 people protested Indonesia’s annexation of East Timor in 1976.
