Reach Out And Touch Someone Naked

Knight-Ridder

It seems like just about everything has found its way on to the fronts of phone cards these days. Even the American Association of Nude Recreation card.

“It is handy at the beach and on vacation,” association director Georgia Brown said.

Nudist cards are just one more funky element of the $1 billion prepaid phone card industry. These handy cards that pay for long-distance calls in advance have turned their fronts into a mix of art, advertising, and promotion.

You can buy cards featuring Sonic the Hedegehog, kickboxers, Kuma the amputee dog, Marilyn, Elvis, Muhammad Ali and Madonna. But the industry couldn’t go quite far enough for the Association of Nude Recreation. The association couldn’t get its phone carrier to feature a tasteful nude figure on its card.

Instead the nude woman on a clothing-optional cruise gazing at the sea is carefully draped in a white towel.

But that still begs the question: Where would nudists pocket their cards?

Well, says Brown, the association has thought of that problem. It sells a velcro wrist band handy for a phone card and a baseball cap with a velcro inside pocket.
