Arson Cause Of Fire At South Hill Home

From Staff And Wire Reports

Someone set the fire that destroyed a South Hill house Tuesday night, Spokane Fire Marshal Gary Miller said Wednesday.

Fire Department investigators using a specially trained dog discovered evidence of arson inside the two-story house at 1312 E. Newark.

Miller said owner Marvin Howell carried no insurance on the home, which was a total loss.

The portions of the house that are still standing likely will be demolished today, Miller said.

Neighbors who gathered to watch the fire Tuesday said the house was a source of aggravation in the neighborhood, with loud parties, and people coming and going at all hours.

Officials are seeking information on the blaze. A reward may be available if a tip leads to an arrest, Miller said.

A sign posted at the scene gives instructions for contacting investigators.
