Head To Puyallup In A Flash

Shutterbugs might want to head for Puyallup on April 26 for the 17th annual Camera Sale, Swap & Show.

The event - held at the Western Washington Fairgrounds Pavilion - is the second-largest one-day camera show in the U.S., with more than 270 tables.

Showgoers can bring any photographic items they want to sell, trade or have appraised.

The Puget Sound Photographic Collectors Society sponsors the event; it’s $4 to get in but parking is free. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beyond Vikings

The Nordic Heritage Museum just celebrated the 192nd birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, one of Denmark’s famous storytellers. But that’s just one of a number of special events held throughout the year at the Seattle museum.

All of the activities give a nod to Nordic heritage, of course. The focus of the museum is to highlight the ways Scandinavian immigrants shaped the world. The museum is open daily except Mondays; admission is $5, $4 for seniors, $3 for kids, and is located at 3014 NW 67th St., Seattle. For more info: (206) 789-5707.

They have legs

If you’re a competition junkie, don’t miss the 10th annual World-Class Crab Races & Crab Feed, April 19 in Westport, Wash.

Those who want to actually race their crab can register their crustacean at 11 a.m. There’s a crab feed that starts at noon and runs until 6 p.m., and the crab races (those that survived the start of the crab feed) begin at 1 p.m. and run throughout the afternoon.

If you bring your own racing crab, it’s $2 to enter it; for $3, you can borrow a racer.

For a crab dinner that includes fresh crab, salad, garlic bread, coffee or pop (beer and wine are available), it’s $10. A half-crab goes for $6.

No mystery here

The official hotels for the Vancouver, B.C., run of “The Phantom of the Opera” are Hotel Vancouver and Waterfront Centre Hotel.

“The Phantom” opens April 30 and those reserving rooms at Hotel Vancouver or Waterfront can get an event package that includes tickets to the show.

Phantom packages start at $179 per person. For information: (800) 701-9070.

Call ahead

A few weeks ago we offered information about a tour of Ireland in July, sponsored by the Spokane-Limerick Sister City Society. Apparently some folks are having difficulty getting through on the phone number we listed.

Here’s another number to try for information about this tour: Maureen Hurl Peterson, 327-3124.
