Search For Jet Moves To Colorado

Compiled From Wire Services

The search for a missing military jet carrying four bombs switched from central Arizona to southwestern Colorado on Saturday based on new radar information.

The search for the A-10 Thunderbolt and its pilot had concentrated on central Arizona since Wednesday, when the $8.8 million aircraft vanished while en route from Tucson to a training session in southwestern Arizona.

The attack jet was carrying four 500-pound live bombs. They would have to be activated by the pilot.

On Friday, three children in the central Arizona town of Young told Air Force officials they had seen the A-10 fly northeast toward Colorado, and away from the training base, on Wednesday afternoon.

Air Force officials had no explanation for why the aircraft and pilot - Capt. David Button - apparently was headed in the wrong direction.
