Online Library To Enrich Offerings

Associated Press

The nation’s library on the Internet will acquire 19th-century sheet music by black Americans, old photographs from the Great Plains and other historical materials by tapping into several libraries across the nation, officials said.

The collections are among several housed in 10 libraries. The materials will be recorded digitally, then made available through the National Digital Library run by the Library of Congress. The project was aided by a $600,000 grant from Ameritech.

Officials could not say how long it would take for the collections to become available. xxxx ADDRESS The Library of Congress Internet address is http://www.loc.gov
