Salvage Company Removing Tracks

From Staff And Wire Reports

A railroad salvage company has started tearing up the tracks of a railroad line while efforts to save the 38 miles of track reportedly abandoned by Burlington Northern in 1984 continue.

The Kendrick Grange intends to hold a meeting it has planned for Tuesday to find out if Burlington Northern ever legally abandoned the Moscow-to-Arrow railroad line.

Proponents of saving the rail line point to the uncertainty surrounding the Snake River navigational system as the government struggles with recovery of salmon runs.

If the dams are removed, the barge traffic would switch to trucks on U.S. Highway 95, Robert J. Hassoldt, master of the Kendrick Grange, said.
