Awareness Sought Of Sexual Assault

The third annual Sexual Assault Awareness Week starts Sunday and continues through the week.

Scheduled activities include:

An “Honor Wreath,” commemorating loved ones affected by sexual violence, will be on display at Auntie’s Bookstore. Ribbons will be available to tie on the wreath.

Monday - A candlelight vigil for sexual assault victims at the Spokane County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. includes speakers, music and an honor wreath.

Tuesday - A seminar titled “Flirting, Harassment and Rape” will be presented by Laurie McKetterick of the Spokane Sexual Assault Center in Lounge C at Spokane Community College.

Wednesday - Ellen Gooblatt of the assault center will discuss “Love, Sex and Relationships: Are They Worth It?” at 7:30 p.m. in Eastern Washington University’s P.U.B. Multipurpose Room.

Friday - The Lewis and Clark High School drama department will perform “Secrets.” The play is about relationship issues facing teens and will be held in the LC auditorium at 7 p.m.

Also during the week, the Sexual Assault Center will be looking for more volunteers. A 30-hour training course is required for all advocates. The next training session begins Wednesday.
