Davenport Romps To Straight-Set Win

Associated Press

Lindsay Davenport beat Mary Pierce 6-2, 6-3 Sunday at Amelia Island, Fla., to win the Bausch & Lomb Championships tennis tournament.

Davenport, the No. 6 seed, swept through five consecutive opponents in straight sets. Only once in the tournament did she lose more than three games in a set.

“Some times those things happen, where you can win a tournament without having to beat a Top 10 player like I did here this week,” Davenport said. “It just worked out that way for me.”

Chang wins rainy Salem Open

Michael Chang needed just two serves today to complete a rain-interrupted 6-3, 6-3 victory over Australia’s Patrick Rafter for the top-seeded Americans’ third Salem Open title in Hong Kong.

The match was interrupted Sunday for the first time after the opening game of the second set when it started to drizzle and was delayed again at match point.
