Teenager Dies In Wreck On Highway Near Oregon Coast
A Washington teenager was killed and another critically injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 26 near the Oregon coast.
Mathew Scott Hopkins, 18, of La Center, Wash., was killed Saturday afternoon when the eastbound car he was driving veered into oncoming traffic and struck a station wagon head-on, state police said.
A passenger, Laurie Anne Sarff, 17, of Brush Prairie, Wash., was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Portland’s Legacy Emanuel Hospital, where she was in critical condition Sunday.
The two occupants of the station wagon suffered minor injuries.
The busy highway was closed for an hour while police investigated the crash, which occurred about 11 miles east of Seaside.
