In Rosie’s Case, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Time magazine’s annual list of America’s 25 most influential people was a bit ahead of its time.

Even before his Masters tournament win over the weekend, golf prodigy Tiger Woods topped this year’s list (“He is ‘The Man,”’ Time said).

Among the other honorees: “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter, crooner Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, cartoon hero Dilbert, “cheerleader” Rosie O’Donnell, retired general Colin Powell, Nine Inch Nails rocker Trent Reznor (“the anti-Bon Jovi”), Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, radio personality Don Imus, Harvard African-American studies professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and National Enquirer Editor Steve Coz.

“The Time 25 is not about the trendiest people of the hour, nor is it a power list,” said the magazine’s managing editor, Walter Isaacson. “It’s about energy, vision, and talent.”

Loose talk

Katie Couric, on her former “Today” co-anchor, Bryant Gumbel (in George magazine): “There was a lot of creative tension. Well, there was tension. I don’t know how creative it was.”

We’re planning to get her something sensible

Emma Thompson turns 38 today.

It’s about time they gave the Denzel his due

Denzel Washington, no stranger to acting awards, has received the Whitney M. Young Jr. Humanitarian Award (named for a former Los Angeles Urban League president) for helping children in South Central Los Angeles. He’s also national spokesman for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Guess you could say The Donald just blew it

Donald Trump, playing principal for the day at an impoverished public school in the Bronx, started by asking “First of all, who likes Nike sneakers?” and offering free shoes from the “new Nike store that I just opened at Trump Tower.” Asked a brave 11-year-old: “Why did you offer us sneakers if you could give us scholarships?”

Cabbies are used to scores in the back seat

Tenor Placido Domingo was overjoyed at the return of a leather satchel he left in a cab following a New York City show Saturday. “There were pictures of my family,” he said. “There were copies of the prayers I’ve said before every one of my 2,700 performances. And there was the score of ‘Die Walkuere,’ which I had been performing that night.”

The title, of course, refers to his previous lovers

Country singer Travis Tritt got hitched over the weekend, serenading his third bride, model Theresa Nelson, with a rendition of his No. 1 hit, “More Than You’ll Ever Know.” Among the guests: Tanya Tucker, Lari White and Gary Rossington of the group Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Then she told him, with this ‘Sling,’ I thee shed

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning “Sling Blade” writer/director/actor Billy Bob Thornton’s fourth wife, Pietra Dawn Thompson, has filed for divorce and asked for sole custody of their two children. Thompson was seen on Thornton’s arm at the Academy Awards ceremony three weeks ago.
